Tackling housing fraud
Over 6,000 people are waiting to move into a Council property in Ashfield. We are supporting the Audit Commission’s drive to tackle housing fraud by ensuring people occupying Council properties have the legal right to do so. Where we find fraud, we will take action to recover the property - making sure homes can be given to those who are in most need.
Stop press - property recovered in Hucknall
Ashfield Homes recently recovered a property in Hucknall, after Ashfield District Council’s Fraud section found the tenant had lied on their application about their circumstances. When we served a Notice and informed them we would take them to Court to repossess the property, they surrendered their tenancy to avoid legal costs.
How we can help
You have a vital role in reporting housing fraud as you know your neighbours!
Do you know or suspect that your neighbour has given false information in their housing application?
Is the house or flat next to you let but no one seems to live there?
Have your neighbours changed but the property hasn’t been empty or you haven’t seen Ashfield Homes employees in to repair it?

YOUR INFORMATION WILL BE HELD IN THE STRICTEST CONFIDENCE. REPORTS CAN BE MADE ANONYMOUSLY.
What we will do
We will:
• investigate all reports of fraud
• Undertake unannounced visits to Ashfield District Council properties where fraud is suspected or at high risk
• Assist the unlawful occupants who are victims of the fraud themselves
• Use the Courts to recover possession of properties where fraud is found to be taking place
