How long will I wait?
There are a number of things that will decide how long you will remain on the waiting list. Some people need to move quickly. Others can afford to take their time. Some live in difficult circumstances or want to be nearer to relatives. Some may need to move for health reasons. Whatever your reason for moving, there are a number of things added together that will help determine how long your wait on the list will be.
These are: Demand + Supply + Your Choices + Points
DemandThe number of applicants that want a particular area makes up the ’demand’. In popular areas, there tends to be a lot of people waiting on the list, in less popular areas the demand is less. If you request a popular area, it is likely that a lot of other people will have too. Your chances of moving quickly to a popular area tend to be less favourable than if you choose a less popular area as your first choice. We can help you in your choices by giving you information about the demand for different properties.
SupplyThe supply of empty properties can be unpredictable. In popular areas, people tend to move away less often and so fewer vacancies occur, whereas in less popular areas, there is often a greater number of properties available. Again, we can give you information about the supply of empty properties in different areas.
Your choicesYou can alter your choices at any time and those choices are entirely your own. We can help you by making you aware of which areas move more quickly than others.
PointsThe number of points that we give your application depends on your circumstances. A points leaflet is available for download or from any of our Property shops. You can also join our OpenAshfield scheme and check your points on-line.
Helping you make a choiceWe have leaflets and guides which can help you in making your housing choices, giving you information about the average points and waiting times for different properties and areas. You can also contact our property shop staff who will be pleased to discuss your options.
Receiving an offerAs soon as we are able to make an offer of a home to you, we will contact you straight away. We will give you the chance to view the property as soon as it is possible. Please feel free to ask us any questions about the property on offer. If you accept the offer you will have to sign a tenancy agreement before you move in.
