Electrician at work

Checking the electrical system in your home

Every 3 years Ashfield Homes completes a test of the electrical system in your home. The check is usually completed at the same time as the gas or solid fuel check.

Ensuring your safety

It is very important that the electrical system is checked to ensure that you, your family and visitors are safe whilst in your home. Poorly maintained electrical systems can cause potentially fatal electric shocks and/or electrical fires.

Making an appointment

We will send you a letter asking you to make a convenient appointment with our service provider who carry out health and safety checks on our behalf. It is very important that you make and keep your appointment for this essential maintenance.

If you have difficulties arranging access due to work or family commitments, please call our Repairs Call Handling Centre 0800 479 4999 (Free phone) or 01623 457999. We will make every attempt to work flexibly around your commitments to ensure that this service is successfully completed.

Safety advice

  • Water and electricity are dangerous together, do not use switches with wet hands.
  • If you have children, use plugs with part insulated pins and plug blanks into sockets when not in use.
  • Regularly check flexes to make sure that they are not worn or damaged.

When will we carry out the check?

The annual property Health and Safety Check/Service will take place between April and September. This will help ensure that your home is in good working order in preparation for the winter ahead.
