tenant and resident asssocations

What is a tenants and residents association?

A tenant and resident association is made up of people who come together to form a group representing their local area. This means the group has to be democratic and accountable to all tenants and residents living in their area. Groups meet on a regular basis to discuss local issues, to arrange events and improve amenities in the area.

Setting up a tenants and residents association

The aims and objectives of an association are set out in a constitution which says what their activities will be and how they are run.

Groups either use the Ashfield Homes model constitution or write their own which must be approved by the Board of Ashfield Homes in order for it to enjoy the same benefits as other recognised associations.  Being a recognised group means that it can be involved in decision making. At least one member of the Committee of the Association must be a tenant of Ashfield District Council for the group to receive financial support from Ashfield Homes.

To find out more about setting up a new association, please contact our Tenant Participation Officer.
