Decorating your home

bedroom

External decoration

Ashfield Homes will keep the outside of your home and the communal parts of flats well decorated.

Please see below a link to our current painting programme. This shows a list of streets that will be having painting works completed to the exterior of the property over the next two years:

   2 Year Painting Programme

Painting your home

If you live in a house or bungalow, you may paint the outside of your home, but you must get our written permission first. A Housing Technical Services Officer will visit your home to advise you accordingly.

To arrange an appointment, call our Repairs Call Handling Centre 0800 4794999 (Freephone).  We can also arrange for any repairs to be completed before you start.

Internal decorating

You are responsible for decorating the inside of your home and we expect you to keep it in a reasonable condition. However, should you remove any radiators during the course of your redecoration, it is your responsibility to ensure that these are re-fitted correctly and rectify any repair issues that may have occurred as a consequence.

Helpful hints

Wallpapering: Measure around walls, doors, and windows then use the diagram below to work out how many rolls of wallpaper you will need.

Height from Skirting 28ft 36ft 36ft 36ft 36ft 36ft 36ft 36ft 36ft
7-7.5ft 4 5 6 6 7 7 8 9 10
7.5-8ft 4 5 6 6 7 8 8 10 11
8-8.5ft 4 5 6 7 7 8 8 10 11
8.5-9ft 4 5 6 7 8 9 9 11 12

Loose plaster

If you are about to remove wallpaper from the wall and the plaster appears loose, contact the Repairs Call Handling Centre on 0800 479 4999 (Freephone) before it comes away from the wall totally, this will avoid any confusion about responsibilities. If you remove the plaster totally you may be responsible for its replacement.

Artex

We advise tenants not to ’Artex’ walls or ceilings, as removing it later can mean having to re-plaster walls, which you may fall responsible for.

Polystyrene wall and ceiling tiles

We advise you not to use them - they can be a fire hazard, produce toxic fumes when burnt, and can damage the plaster on the walls and ceilings.
