Your Tenancy Agreement says that you must pay all your rent and any other tenancy charges each and every week. If you fall into arrears, you will receive a reminder letter and/or a visit from a Housing Management Advisor.
We want to help you avoid getting behind with your rent. If you are having difficulty paying, please contact us. You can speak to a Housing Management Advisor in confidence and they will give you advice before the problem gets out of hand. Take a look at our "Problems Paying Rent?" leaflet for more help.
We will take your circumstances into account and agree a realistic repayment plan with you. If you need some advice about managing your finances effectively, we can make an appointment for you to see our Money Management Advisor who will be able to help. If you are on a low income, you may be entitled to Housing Benefit to assist you with your rent payments.
- Download a Housing Benefit form here
- Or collect a form from your local Office
We have a Service Standard on how we will respond to tenants in arrears. If a tenant fails to pay rent or breaches any aspect of their tenancy agreement the local authority has the right to evict the tenant by applying to the court to repossess the property. DO NOT IGNORE THE PROBLEM: CONTACT US, WE WILL TRY TO HELP.
You can also get independent advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau, a solicitor, or a Housing Advice Centre.
