Housing Benefit is help for anyone on a low income who has to pay rent for their home, sometimes also called "Rent Rebate." The amount of Housing Benefit you recieve depends on the size of your household, how much your rent is, and how much income and savings you have. You apply for Housing Benefit by completing an application form that is available from any of our Property Shops or from Ashfield District Council or you can download a Housing Benefit Form here.
Completed forms should be returned to Ashfield District Council who will assess the infromation you have provided on your application form and decide how much benefit to award you. If the Council ask you for additional infromation to support your claim, such as proof of your income or savings, it is important that you respond with in the required timescales, otherwise your claim for Housing Benefit may be cancelled.
Remember that you should continue to make payments to your rent account until your Housing Benefit has been processed and the Council has determined how much benefit you recieve.
